Follow the child
P&J Montessori Kindergarten
Since its founding in 1991, P&J Kindergarten has provided quality education for children aged 2 1/2 to 6 1/2. Our program is based on a full Montessori curriculum and is led by Montessori-trained educators.
In 2009, P&J won the Innovation Award and was also selected as a finalist for Best Practices by the Ministry of Education, Singapore. The team went on to win three more innovation grants in subsequent years.
P&J Kindergarten, situated in the Upper Thomson area of Singapore, caters to families with preschoolers from Bishan, Ang Mo Kio, Sin Ming, Upper Thomson and even up to the East Coast. It enjoys lush, beautiful nature that is perfect for learning. The environment is calm and well-ordered, with a full suite of Montessori materials. The children are free to choose and work on activities at their own pace. The location is also accessible through the new Upper Thomson MRT station.
With a constant drive towards an integrated approach to nurturing children, P&J has continued to provide a holistic way of learning that adheres to the characteristics of a traditional Montessori classroom.
P&J Montessori Curriculum Features
Respect for the Child - Follow the Child’s Lead
In our curriculum, following the child means carefully observing each child to understand what they need to do, what they need to develop within themselves, and the areas where they need to be challenged. This approach ensures that we provide the right learning experiences at the right time.
Philosophy of Freedom Within Discipline
Children are free to choose their activities and pursue their interests, including selecting materials, working at their own pace, and making decisions about their learning paths. However, well-defined limits are in place to ensure a structured and safe environment.
Nurturing a Child’s Independence and Concentration
Our curriculum systematically encourages independence by providing children with the freedom of choice and engaging them in various activities. These include practical life skills, community service like caring for plants, preparing snacks, and more.
Mixed-age Group
Children of various ages work together, fostering an environment of mutual protection and care. This promotes collaboration, builds confidence, and helps develop long-term relationships with both peers and teachers.
Uninterrupted Work Cycle
Children are provided with a designated period to complete various tasks at their own pace, without interruptions from the teacher unless they seek assistance. This approach enhances their concentration skills and enables them to explore tasks more deeply.
Montessori Trained Teachers
Our Montessori trained teachers excel in implementing the Montessori approach with the highest level of fidelity.
Comprehensive Montessori Materials
We offer a complete range of Montessori materials, including Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Culture. These materials empower children to work independently at their own pace, promoting hands-on learning and fostering exploration and self-discovery.
